- 18″ of 1/4″ fusible web tape
- Heavy-weight needle
- Temporary marking pen
- Walking foot (if quilting the bag- optional)
- Basic cutting and sewing supplies
Fabrics & Interfacing
Exterior Fabrics: Suggested fabrics: Quilting cotton or light-weight home decor
Primary Fabrics:
- 5 – 1/4 yard (23cm) cuts – 44″(112cm) wide or 5 fat quarters – for 5 bottom pieces of exterior
- 1/2 yard (46cm) – 44″(112cm) wide OR 2 fat quarters – for exterior handles
Contrast Fabric: 3/4 yard (69cm) – 44″(112cm) wide- for contrast strips on exterior and binding for handle opening
Lining Fabric: 1 yard (91cm) – 44″(112cm) wide
Pocket Fabric: 11×19″ (28x48cm) remnant or 1 fat quarter
Medium-weight Interfacing*: one-sided fusible – 4 1/2 yards (4.11m) – 20″(51cm) wide – for stabilizing exterior quilt -weight cottons Suggested Interfacing: Shape Flex (SF101) from Pellon
Medium-weight Canvas*: 1 yard (91cm) – 44″(112cm) minimum width – for interlining
Suggested Canvas: Drill canvas (found in the utility fabric section of Joann)
Ultra-firm Stabilizer or Plastic Canvas (optional): 1 – 14 x 4″(36x10cm) piece – to stiffen the bottom of the bag.
Suggested Stabilizer: Peltex (#70 or 71F) by Pellon (a double layer may also be used)
*If you plan to quilt this bag, you only need 2 yards of the medium-weight interfacing. You will also need 2 – 20 x 32″(51x81cm) pieces of fleece, batting or Soft and Stable from byAnnie’s. If you use the Soft and Stable, also forgo the medium weight canvas interlining.
